Reporting into the Research Leader, Microbiology, the Research Officer will contribute to the effective outcomes of WQRA (Water Quality Research A ustralia) Project, which is the \"Evaluation and validation of rapid molecular methods for the detection and identification of microorganisms in water\". You will work under limited supervision and conduct experiments to evaluate sample concentration methods and molecular assays for the detection of selected microorganisms. Working productively in a team environment you will also be required to carry out meticulous and thorough work and achieve key milestones and outcomes.
It is expected you will have sound knowledge and/ or experience in Microbiology/ molecular biology techniques and experience in standard methods used to test for waterborne microorganisms, including experience in general laboratory procedures and safety. You will also have sound written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work with people at all levels.
It is required that you have a degree in Science or equivalent with microbiology or molecular biology as a major component, or Research qualifications in microbiology or related discipline, would be desirable.
There will be some out of hours work and interstate travel required from time to time.
